Obituary

Scott Allen Wethington, SSG, U.S. Air Force Ret. age 43 of Crawfordsville, passed away, at 11:56 AM, Sunday, December 14, 2025 in Franciscan Health, Indianapolis following a lengthy illness.  Scott was born in Crawfordsville June 16, 1982 son of Stan Wethington and Kathie Gross.  He grew up in Wingate, attending Coal Creek Central School until 1994 when he moved with his family to New Mexico.

He was a graduate of Goddard High School, in New Mexico with the class of 2000.  Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 2000 through 2015.  He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant prior to his discharge and was extremely proud of his military service.

Following his Air Force service, Scott came back to Wingate and moved in with his Uncle Kevin and  aunt Laura Gross of rural Wingate.  Scott enjoyed the country life and learned to love the land and farming while working with Kevin and Laura as well as his cousin Becky and her husband Brian Higgins. During his time on the farm, he attended Lincoln Technical College in Indianapolis and graduated as a diesel mechanic.  He was employed by JTR Repair in Darlington for a period of time.  He also worked a brief stint at Big R in Crawfordsville, where his sister Kristie was the manager and his mom also worked…it made for many interesting situations. He moved to Crawfordsville in 2017 and began driving a semi for Mike Meritt and his mother, then the Fruits family at Newtown Farm Supply until his health failed.

Scott was a stubborn, bullheaded rascal but loved deeply and unconditionally. He enjoyed vehicles that 'went fast' and made noise…ATV mudding, souping up vehicles, building things, driving a tractor for Uncle Kevin, camping, fishing and being outdoors. Beneath that big beard was often a bigger mischievous grin.

Surviving are:  His mother Kathie Gross Meritt of Wingate, his father Stan (Leann) Wethington of Crawfordsville, two sisters; Kristie (Kent) Richmond of Crawfordsville and Stacey (Tom) Hansell of rural Wingate.  His special friend Kylie Feltner of Crawfordsville. Scott's bonus family; Bradley Wethington of the UK, Stephanie (Evan) Russell of Chicago, Beth Schultz of TN, Susan Hess of Newtown, Stephanie (Justin) Haderle of Darlington.  Nieces and nephews; Hannah (Logan) Olin, Zachary, Annalie, Ellie Kate & Sarah Hansell.  Great nieces/nephews Nash, David, Holden Jay, Wylder Gage. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Uncle Kevin Gross, cousin Bonnie Jo Gross and Aunt Melissa Gross and great-niece Haislynn Sue Olin.
