IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shiela Ann
Killian
September 2, 1938 – June 25, 2023
Shiela Ann Killian 84, of West Point, IN went peacefully to be with the Lord on June 25, 2023 surrounded by her family. Shiela was born on September 2, 1938 to Elizabeth (Reeves) Chase and Clifford Chase of West Point, IN. She was the oldest of three children, having two younger brothers Jack and Tom whom she adored. As a young child she enjoyed time with many aunts, uncles and cousins who lived close by. She grew to love cheerleading in high school, playing the piano and gardening/arts and crafts. She joined the Eastern Star as a Rainbow Girl and focused on community service and serving others.
Shiela graduated from West Point High School in 1956. In 1956 she married Lowell Gooden and together they had four children. Robin DeVault of Romney, Terri Davis and Steve Godden both of West Point and Anna Gooden who died as an infant.
Surviving are her children: Robin (Bob) DeVault, Terri Davis and Steve (Belinda) Gooden. Also surviving are her brothers; Jack Chase and Tom Chase and brother-in-law Larry Killian. In 1969 she married her high school sweetheart Dean Killian and they lived in Lafayette until building a home near West Point where they lived 46 years. They were married for 54 years and loved one another dearly.
Shiela was passionate about her community and welcomed newcomers with open arms. She poured her heart into her family and wouldn't have missed a family party for anything! She attended as many school programs, ball games, and other important events as her health would allow. You could hear her cheering from the stands as she adored her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
Over the years, her faith in God grew and she attended West Point United Methodist Church and Bethel Church, Attica. Music was one of her passions and she built memories of playing 'Jesus Loves Me' (and many other songs) as her grandchildren gathered around her organ and accordion. Shiela was also known to write beautiful poetry and confidently speak in crowds. She as animated, a great orator and could make a crowd laugh and feel right at home.
A few of her and Dean's pastimes were square dancing, camping and spending time with their beloved dogs. She was known to create cute ways of traveling with them, even building a cozy basket upon the dashboard of the Winnebago. She was also a quite the card-shark…challenging others to a game of euchre or canasta when the opportunity arose. She was a kind-hearted hostess and enjoyed preparing delicious meals for others and offered their home to those in need for short stays.
Shiela was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Clifford Chase, her infant daughter Anna Gooden, sister-in-law Kay Chase and brothers-in-law Sam and Bob Killian. She had six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
To know Shiela was to know a lady full of life and laughter. Her vivacious personality and compassion for others will never be forgotten. She had countless friends and family who might even get a late-night call to just say, "Hello how are you doing?" Shiela will be greatly missed and her legacy will live on forever. She made a lasting impression on all of those who knew her.
