Stanley E. Lyon, age 83, of rural New Richmond, passed away Monday following a lengthy illness, at 10:27 am May 24, 2021 in his home, surrounded by family. Stan was born July 24, 1937 to J. Stanley and Ethel Arnold Lyon in Wingate, and they preceded him in death. He married Sue Wade in Wingate, December 11, 1955 and she survives.
Stan was a graduate of Coal Creek High School. He served with the Indiana National Guard 1954-1956 and was a 35-year employee of RR Donnelley & Sons as a 'Bindery Operator'. Stan was a member of the former Wingate Christian Church, Crawfordsville Moose Lodge #6 and Crawfordsville Eagles #1005.
Stan was a family man and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On their birthdays, he would give them cash and tell them it was 'beer money' for the future. Stan was a huge fan of the Chicago Bears and John Wayne movies. He enjoyed NASCAR with Kyle Busch as his favorite driver, campfires, swapping stories, working on cars and mowers , gun collecting…he enjoyed sitting in his outdoor swing and visiting with anyone who stopped by.
Surviving along with his wife Sue, are: Three daughters; Kay Lyon of New Richmond, Karen (Eric) Vickery of Crawfordsville, Kathi (Lonnie) Jones of New Richmond. Foster daughter Kitty Underwood (Michael Finney) of Michigan City. Granddaughter; Caryn (Bob) Heisel of Crawfordsville. Grandsons; Jacob Jones of West Lafayette, Wesley Vickery (fiance' Liz Ballard) of Crawfordsville. Nephew, Tom (Sherrie) Lyon and niece Deb (Kevin) Kinkead both of Crawfordsville and multiple nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bob and sister-in-law Darlene Lyon and great-grandson Chance Heisel, sister-in-law Connie Cooper, brother-in-law Charlie Wade.
Visitation hours are 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, May 27, 2021, with funeral services 1:00 PM Friday, May 28, 2021 with Chaplin Tom Richason officiating at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate.
