Crawfordsville – Terry Wade Bartell age 54, of rural Crawfordsville, died following a battle with cancer at 3:00 a.m. July 19, 2009 at his home. Terry was born on December 22, 1954 in South Bend, IN the son of the late Bernie and Bobbie Wilbanks Bartell who survives in Mishawaka. He was a 1973 graduate of Jackson High School in South Bend and he had resided in the Crawfordsville area since 1978. On June 14th, 1980 he was married to Deanna 'Dee' Peterman in Crawfordsville, she survives.

Terry graduated from Western Michigan University, where he also played baseball, with a BA in education and received his Masters from DePauw University. He was a business and physical education teacher at North Montgomery High School for 14 years as well as a dedicated coach. His coaching duties included boys baseball, basketball, football, girls basketball and softball. He had also been employed with Bane Equipment Co. in sales, Alcoa and most recently had been employed as an Insurance Agent with Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance until his health failed.

Terry was a member of New Hope Christian Church and Western Indiana Officials Assn. He had officiated three Indiana State Basketball Finals, two Indiana State Football Finals and is scheduled to be inducted in October into the Montgomery County Basketball Hall of Fame. He enjoyed golf, coaching, officiating, softball and family vacations.

During his girls basketball coaching career, he compiled a record breaking 21 – win season along with five consecutive sectional championships. He was also able to coach all three of his daughters throughout their high school careers.

Surviving along with his wife Dee and mother are three daughters: Casey (Jeremy) Horn, Jessica Bartell both of Crawfordsville, Kylie (Darrin) Bechtel of Linden. Three sisters: Sheila Hartline, Sheri (Mike) Lebiedziniski and Lori Alkire all of South Bend. Two brothers: Pat (Keller) Bartell and Mike Bartell both of South Bend. A grand-daughter Rylie Horn, in-laws Richard and Eleanor Peterman of Crawfordsville. 13 nephews and four nieces also survive. He was preceded in death, by his father Bernie Bartell.

The family will receive guests in the auditorium of North Montgomery High School, Wednesday, July 22, 2009 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the auditorium on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Whitacre officiating, burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Crawfordsville.
