Thomas Eugene Oswalt, 84, of Franklin, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on May 3, 2023.
Thomas was born in Williamsport, Indiana on August 6, 1938. He was the son of the late Elmer and Margie (Chapman) Oswalt of Romney, Indiana. He graduated from Southwestern High School. On February 8, 1964, he married the love of his life, Sharon (DeFreese) Oswalt, who preceded him in death. Thomas retired from Fairfield Manufacturing in Lafayette, Indiana in 2000 as a machinist. Thomas served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal having worked in supply logistics in Barstow, California.
In his spare time, Thomas enjoyed fishing, Purdue football and basketball, camping, and working on and owning street rods. Thomas and Sharon spent many years driving across the country to car shows and wintering in Florida where they met many lifelong friends.
Thomas is survived by his three daughters, Denise (Richard) Edenfield of Brunswick, Georgia, Tamela (Patrick) Duncan of Greenwood, Indiana, and Tracy (Steven) Powell of Henderson, Kentucky; 8 grandchildren, Brad (Jess), Tyler, Seth (Myriam), Brock, Caleb, Garrett, Kelsey, and Tristan (TJ); 8 great-grandchildren, Eloise, Charlotte, Zaylee, Wyatt, Novak, Suri, Sofia, and Aidan; one brother, Ronald (Vicki) Oswalt of Hudson, Florida.
Sharon Oswalt, 78, of Franklin, Indiana passed away at her home on March 16, 2022.
Sharon was born on September 19, 1943 in LaFayette, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Leroy and Amanda De Freese. She graduated from Southwestern High School. On February 8, 1964 she married the love of her life, Thomas Eugene Oswalt. She had been employed by State Farm Insurance, Sarge BIltz Restaurant, and retired after many years for Crop Production Services. In her spare time Sharon enjoyed Euchre, flowers, bird watching, Purdue Sports and wintering in Florida.
Sharon is survived by her two daughters, Tamela (Patrick) Duncan of Greenwood, Indiana and Tracy (Steven) Powell of Henderson, Kentucky; her two grandsons, Bradley (Jessica) Oswalt of Columbus and Tyler Duncan of Greenwood; her two great-granddaughters, Eloise and Charlotte Oswalt of Columbus, Indiana; her brother, Brian (Marla) DeFreese and sister-in-law Kay DeFresse both of West Point.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Burt and William (Bill) DeFreese.
Combined graveside services for Tom and Sharon will be 2:00 PM Saturday, June 10, 2023 in West Point Cemetery with Rob Outhouse officiating, followed by a gathering/reception in the community room at the West Point Fire Station.
