Viola I. Shultz Hunnings, age 95, formerly of Newtown and Connersville died, Monday morning May 11, 2015 in her son's home in St. Johns, FL. She had been in failing health the past several years. She was born May 2, 1920 in Newtown, Indiana, daughter of the late Andrew A. and Bertha Ann McCauley Shultz. She married R.H. Hunnings, May 23, 1942 in New Albany and he preceded her in death July 4, 1997.
She was a 1938 graduate of Newtown High School, attended Indiana Teachers College in Terre Haute and graduated from Terre Haute Commercial College in 1940 and was employed by Sears Roebuck & Co. in Indianapolis. In 1948 she and her husband settled in Connersville, where R.H. taught Junior High School and later established Hunnings Realty & Appraisals. Viola was formerly employed by Fayette Federal Savings & Loan and Central State/Fifth Third Band both in Connersville, retiring in 1981. She was a member of East Side United Methodist Church and was active in Grace United Methodist Church, playing piano and organ at both.
Surviving are: a son R.H. Hunnings II of St. Johns, FL, a daughter Ginger Hall of Indianapolis, grandson, Brad Hunnings of Savannah, GA and granddaughter, Shawn Hall of Hilton Head, SC and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Virginia Slauter.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 10:00 – 11:00 am, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 in Newtown Cemetery, with Pastor Mike Parks officiating.
