Obituary

Virginia Nesbitt Greenburg, 95, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Franciscan St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis. A native of Montgomery County, she was born July 27, 1918, the second child of Herman B. and Ruth Miller Nesbitt, and grew up on the family farm northwest of New Richmond. She graduated from the New Richmond School in 1936 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics from Purdue University in 1940. After graduation she worked in the food service industry as a dietician and restaurant manager in restaurants in Chicago and Detroit. Near the end of the decade she returned to Indiana to work as a manager at The Chestnut Room restaurant in the Purdue University Memorial Union on the campus in West Lafayette. On July 14, 1951 she married John W. Greenburg and began her life as a wife and mother at Fairlane Farm southeast of Wingate. Following the death of her husband in 1997, she moved to the Indianapolis area and had resided at the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin, Indiana for the past 15 years.

Her survivors include her daughters Ruth (Mrs. Dennis) Mulvaney of Greenwood, IN, and her children Emily, Heather, and Daniel Mulvaney; Ann (Mrs. Gregory) Benz of Owings Mills, MD and her children, Michael, and Virginia Benz; and Sara Greenburg of Wingate, IN, and her siblings Helen (Mrs. Carl) Williams of Pittsboro, NC, and John C. Nesbitt of Owings Mills, MD, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, John W. Greenburg, and by her siblings, Martha Steinbicker, Dick Nesbitt, Winifred Nesbitt, Tom Nesbitt, and Doris Jackson.

A celebration of life for Mrs. Greenburg will be held at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2014 with her family leading the service. A time of gathering for family and friends will be from 2:30 until service time at 3:30.
