William L. (Bill) Gookins, 73, of Newtown passed away on Sat. Feb. 10, 2018 at Rural Healthcare Center in Indianapolis. He was born on Oct. 21, 1944 to the late William S. and Nyle C. (Padgitt) Gookins.
Bill was a 1962 graduate of Richland Township High School. He attended Purdue University and Indiana University. He was a member of the First Church of Christ, (Holiness) in Indianapolis.
Bill had a passion for computers in his early years. He owned an Apple computer 20 years before they were commonplace in many households. He was proud, and deservedly so, of the patent he wrote on grain drying sensors.
Bill was very devout in his faith and a strong believer in his Lord and Savior. He had such a giving heart, he would rather give to those in need than to have something for himself.
Preceding him in death, his love and companion of many years Theresa Guise (2007) and his parents.
Surviving are a brother Jerry (Tina) Gookins of Newtown, two nephews Greg Gookins of Indianapolis, and Beau (Danielle) Gookins of Veedersburg, a great niece Piper Gookins and her two brothers Dallas and Denton Otero, also of Veedersburg. Three step-sons: Paul M. ( Cheryl Janes) Guise, Glenn Guise of Indianapolis, and Todd (Atsuko) Guise of Silver Spring MD, along with their two daughters Sarah and Mya.
