Obituary

Wilma Marie Knowles Krug, age 85, of rural Veedersburg, passed away 4:00 PM Sunday, January 25, 2025 in Creasy Springs Health Campus, Lafayette. She was born in Attica, May 2, 1940 daughter of the late Thomas Hallie and Ethel Jean Kunkle Knowles. She married Kedric Krug in the Attica Presbyterian Church October 8, 1958 and he untimely preceded her in death from cancer April 20, 1982 leaving her with three young children.

Wilma was a 1958 graduate of Attica High School and following their marriage she and Kedric moved to the Newtown community and began farming. Wilma also drove a school bus for the Southeast Fountain School Corporation for many years, retiring in 1993. Not working didn’t fit well with Wilma and she soon took a position driving a bus for Lafayette Limo for a few years and moved on to driving a Lafayette City Bus from where she retired.

In 1982 Wilma was left with 3 young children, ages 13, 11 and 7, when her husband Kedric passed away. With determination, resiliency and grit, she worked full time, managed the farm she loved and raised a great family. Wilma was a great care-taker of her farm and she meticulously kept her home and property a ‘show place’. She loved and was very proud of her children/grandchildren and supported them in their various activities. Along the way, Wilma met George Sanson from Lafayette, who lovingly referred to her as ‘Butterfly’ and George accepted the Krug children as his own. They enjoyed 40 years together until he passed away in 2024.

Wilma was a member of the Newtown Community Church, Home Ec. Club, Red Hatters, enjoyed Country Line dancing, roller skating, music and attending productions at Myers Dinner Theater and The Beef House. She loved her church family and was a supporter of Fountain County 4-H programs and the Mellott Fire & Rescue Department. Wilma’s ever-present smile and warm, loving personality will be sorely missed in the Newtown Community and all who knew her.

Surviving are: a daughter, Karin (Tim) Loose of Battle Ground, WA, two sons; Kevin (Cheri) Krug of rural Wingate and Scott (Kelly) Krug of rural Veedersburg. Grandchildren: Clint Krug, Makayla & Karoline Loose, Kameran (Ava) Krug and Kody Krug. Also surviving are two sisters; Shirley (John) Henry of Clearwater, FL and Linda Sue (Del) Stewart of Leesburg, FL, a brother, Hallie ‘Butch’ Knowles of Pine Village and sister-in-law June Doyle of Mukwonago, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kedric, companion George and sister Barbara.

Visitation hours are Sunday, February 1, 2026, 12:00 - 2:30 PM with funeral services following at 2:30 PM with Pastor Mike Parks officiating at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Burial will follow in Newtown Cemetery. Memorial contributions are preferred to Newtown Community Church. Visit us online at www.familyandfriendsfh.com to sign the guest book or share a memory.
