Donald E. Cope, age 93 passed away 1:30 PM, Monday, May 4, 2020 in Bickford Memory Care, Crawfordsville following a lengthy illness.  He was born June 8, 1926 in Greencastle, son of the late Jim and Minnie Cope.  Me married Betty Jones in Wingate February 15, 1947 and she preceded him in death May 29, 2017.

Don was a graduate of Wingate High School and served two years with the US Navy.  He farmed in the Waynetown/Wingate area until he retired in 1993.  He was a 75 year member of the Elmdale Church, Farm Bureau member for 42 years, 55 year member of the Masonic Lodge and 69 year member of the American Legion where he served as Commander.

In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, specializing in making windmills and birds.  He and Betty enjoyed spending their winters in Bradenton Florida until their health failed.

Surviving are:  two daughters; Kay Birchfield, and Rhonda (John) Bowman, both of Crawfordsville: two sons; Dennis (Cathy) Cope of Kingston, TN and Darrell (Vicki) Cope of Crawfordsville.  Thirteen grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren also survive.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Frank, a sister Loraine, grandson Danny and granddaughter Josie.

Visitation hours are 1:00-3:00 PM, Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate.  Social distancing is expected and limited numbers will be allowed to enter at a time.  Private graveside services will follow in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery with Kevin Howey officiating and Military services by Crawfordsville American Legion/VFW Post Honor Guard.  Memorial contributions may be directed to American Legion Post #72.  Visit us online at www.familyandfriendsfh.com to sign the guest book or leave a condolence.
